L’Indonésie essaye toujours d’attirer les touristes chinois. Le principal objectif est d'accroître le nombre de vols directs, ainsi que les compagnies aériennes low cost entre la Chine et l’Indonésie. La Garuda Indonesia a officiellement ouvert une liaison depuis l’aéroport Ngurah Rai, à Bali et la capitale de la province chinoise du Sichuan, Chengdu. En 2016, la Garuda a obtenue 25% des parts du marché aérien entre la Chine et l’Indonésie.

La liaison Bali-Chengdu fonctionnera 4 fois par semaine. Les vols à destination de la Chine opérés par la Garuda Indonesia, vont jusqu'à Beijing, Shanghai ou encore Guangzhou.Les touristes chinois voyageant à Bali peuvent se rendre à Yogyakarta, Makassar, Manado et Labuan Bajo, et obtenir des vols de correspondance domestiques.

Les citoyens chinois contribuent au plus grand nombre d'arrivées de touristes dans l'archipel, battant Singapour, la Malaisie et l'Australie, qui a toujours été au sommet de la liste. Bali est la principale destination et la Chine est le marché prioritaire pour augmenter les arrivées au cours des trois prochaines années.

La Garuda Indonesia planifie de développer 10 nouvelles destinations touristiques autre que Bali.
